Tell us a bit about what you appreciate about them as an RCB: Steve Roe is a humble and compassionate community builder. He has spent much of his life bearing light and hope into dark and despairing places. He has spent thousands of volunteer hours with his therapy dogs visiting troubled teens at Oregon Youth Authority, lonely seniors at area retirement homes, and suffering people at local hospitals. Steve has worked behind the scenes to strengthen relationships between businesses and those working with the marginalized in our community. Wherever he goes–whether in professional or social settings–he is quick to listen, empathize, and encourage.

Steve has a practice of handing out simple little cards that say “You Matter” to strangers, friends, and colleagues. This is what it feels like to be in Steve’s presence: Valued. Important. Seen. This is the gift of Steve to our valley. This is why he deserves recognition as a Rural Community Builder.
