Rural Community Builder Name: Rachel Cotton

Community: Newport, OR

Role: Volunteer admin support for the Coastal Equity and Inclusion Committee

What is one word or phrase that describes this person as an RCB: Persistent

Recognized by: Lola Jones

Tell us a bit about what you appreciate about them as an RCB: Rachel contributes her gift for group administration and meeting facilitation to the Coastal Equity and Inclusion Committee. The CEIC is led by a less-experienced facilitator and Rachel strikes a perfect balance of stepping up and standing alongside. She keeps the group focused while not centering the meeting in dominant culture.

When Rachel was working with the City of Newport, she led a successful effort to establish tax relief for affordable housing construction, which resulted in a 110-unit complex being built this year. Everybody can support affordable housing, not everyone can write and direct policy that makes it happen.

RACHEL FOR MAYOR, GOVERNOR, PRESIDENT and POPE!
