Tell us a bit about what you appreciate about them as an RCB:

Kathleen, an instrumental figure in the Wild Rivers Coast Food Trail has been the driving force behind the transformation and collaboration of the food trail since 2017. What began as a modest farm trail in 2015, initially spearheaded by Cathy Boden, has, through Kathleen’s relentless dedication and visionary approach, evolved into a comprehensive and vibrant food trail encompassing 42 diverse members. The Wild Rivers Coast Food Trail has been an inspiration to other Travel Oregon Food trails since it was one of the first in Oregon.

The Wild Rivers Coast Food Trail, under Kathleen’s stewardship since 2017, now boasts an array of farms, ranches, producers, breweries, distilleries, and eateries, all united in showcasing the culinary richness of Southern Oregon’s coast. Kathleen’s ability to leverage resources, including securing additional funding and support from the OCVA, has been pivotal in this expansion.

Throughout the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kathleen demonstrated remarkable leadership by ensuring safe travel and adherence to safety protocols. She showed leadership during this time by pivoting to introduce a digital passport option that not only adapted to the changing times but also significantly broadened the trail’s audience.

Moreover, Kathleen’s commitment to fostering a strong farmer-to-chef network, establishing deep-rooted connections with local producers, and understanding the intricacies of local production are commendable. Her efforts in marketing, through printed brochures, website updates, digital maps, and engaging social media presence, have significantly elevated the trail’s visibility and appeal.

Her passion extends beyond logistics and planning; it’s her personal touch—learning the stories behind the farms and food artisans and advocating for local sourcing!

Kathleen’s tireless work has not only enriched the Southern Oregon coast through the Wild Rivers Coast Food Trail but has also invigorated the local community, connected producers to markets, and enhanced the visitor experience. Her dedication exemplifies what it means to be a Rural Community Builder.

Therefore, I believe there is no one more deserving of this recognition than Kathleen Dickson. Her commitment, vision, and impactful contributions have profoundly shaped our community for the better. Kathleen’s recognition would not only honor her but also inspire continued growth and collaboration within our rural communities.
